Here lies a list of mixed tapes, ultra-against-the-law-style-don't-tell- bmi-about-this. I love making mixed tapes, and I love buying music. Making mixed tapes allows me to troll my collection, and give some of it away. Mixed tapes are more fun than just getting someone to "tape the whole album."

In addition to the fun factor in making tapes, there is also the element of pulling texts out of context. There are some tracks that work really well in the context of full length albums, and others that don't fit well. The idea of pulling a track out of an album and making it the opening track of a compilation tape, or sandwiching it between two other cuts can create an interesting dialectic. This "removing of context" also can draw out the merit of a track that once could be considered throwaway material. Text and context are great things.

(It should be noted that the notion of mixed tape and it's context is a very micro version of what DJ's are doing. DJ's, as a whole, pull small bits of music out of context, and reaply it to another piece. Not just the simple method of bookending, rather the concept of cut-up's.) Like that actually needed to be written. Duh.

It is the playing with context, the examination of my collection, and the pure enjoyment of listening and sharing music that makes mixed tapes so great.

Of course this pleasure can be shared (and should be goddamit). So, before asking me to make you a mixed tape, be prepared to create one in exchange.

Anyway, here are the track listings of some recent tapes --
